Wellness Wheel & Assessment
Wellness is not merely the absence of illness or distress – it is a lifelong process of making decisions to live a more balanced and meaningful life.
There are always opportunities for enhancing your wellness. A good way to start is by evaluating your current state and establishing systems to guide you towards a fuller sense of well-being.
The Wellness Wheel describes the integration of 7 important dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual.

Princeton UMatter Wellness Self-Assessment

Guy Winch’s Emotional First Aid is a TED talk where he discusses how to address emotional wounds in the same way we treat physical ones. He emphasizes that emotional pain—such as rejection, failure, or loneliness—can be just as harmful as physical injuries if left untreated. In his talk, Winch presents strategies for managing and healing emotional pain effectively.
Here’s a summary of the key points:
  1. Emotional Pain is Real Pain: Winch explains that emotional pain activates the same brain regions as physical pain. Ignoring emotional distress can have long-term negative effects on mental health.
  2. Rejection Hurts: He talks about how social rejection affects our self-esteem and mental well-being. He suggests strategies for coping with rejection, like reframing the situation and focusing on the positive aspects of life.
  3. Failure: Failures can lead to feelings of inadequacy. Winch emphasizes the importance of learning from failures and not allowing them to define us.
  4. Loneliness: Loneliness can be deeply damaging, so it’s crucial to address feelings of isolation by seeking connection and support from others.
  5. Self-compassion: He advocates for treating ourselves with the same kindness and care that we would show a friend who’s going through emotional struggles.
In conclusion, Winch’s message is that emotional health deserves as much attention as physical health. By actively practicing emotional self-care, we can prevent small emotional wounds from becoming larger, more difficult problems.
